Yawning isn’t contagious only among humans

A research carried out on two dozen breeds, from poodles to pit bulls, confirmed what most pet owners already suspected. When a dog watches either a stranger or its owner yawn, the dog is far more likely to yawn in response to its owner. A big part of this is empathy. Dogs are known to be skilled at reading human social and communicative behaviors, they can tell when the owner is sad, for example. While said study didn’t concentrate on yawning being contagious between dogs, it is believed that this is also true.
