Sir Nicholas Winton who organised the rescue and passage to Britain of about 669 mostly Jewish Czechoslovakian children destined for the Nazi death camps before World War II in an operation known as the Czech Kindertransport. This video is the BBC Programme “That’s Life” aired in 1988. The most touching video ever.

If you are unhappy about your iPhone speakers, here is cool passive amplifier for you. It is based on a thin wooden frame that allows the object to float off the table. This in order to increase the vibration of the object and to optimize the emission of sound. Designed for the iPhone, it is perfect for listening music without headphones, for audio conference to hear the person on the phone as live voice.

This megaphone is handmade out of ceramic. The docking area at the top of the horn is compatible with the original iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, and iPod touch. The only problem with this megaphone is that it comes with a megaprice: black and white for €399.99 (US$536), and in gold for €599.99 (US$804).

When you travel by airplane this is how you see fields: colourful, disorderly, yet orderly, of all shapes and colours, each next to another. Liz Eeuwes, who has been inspired by similar countryside in Scotland comes up with the idea of reproducing them in smaller scale and with hand. Yes, she has turned these beautiful pattens into rug. Who wouldn’t want these colorful and vivid rugs in his/her room to give it a modern and yet countryside look. One more thing: Each rug is handmade from colourful New Zealand wool. Their exuberantly colored blocks and swirls would be perfectly at home in any room, but would be especially wonderful in a library or office with a map theme.

ZeroN is the name of the project carried out by Jinha Lee. ZeroN uses magnets, a Kinect visual system (webcam based), plus a special software that enables either the computer to move a steel ball around in space, or a human to just grab it and move it, essentially telling the computer where it should go. It can even remember how it was moved, then repeat the movement automatically.

‘The Kiss’, ‘V-Day’, or ‘V-J Day in Times Square’ is a photograph by Alfred Eisenstaedt that portrays an American sailor kissing a woman in a white dress on Victory over Japan Day (V-J Day) in Times Square, New York City, on August 14, 1945. The photograph was published a week later in Life magazine among many photographs of celebrations around the country. Although kissing was a favourite pose for photographers, Eisenstaedt was photographing a spontaneous event that occurred in Times Square as the announcement of the end of the war on Japan was made.

Johnson's Unconditional Surrender

Because Eisenstaedt was photographing rapidly changing events during the celebrations he did not have an opportunity to get the names and details. The photograph does not clearly show the faces of either person involved in this embrace and several people have claimed to be the subjects. Indeed, eleven men and three women had come forward claiming to be the subjects of the photograph. The following is Alfred Eisenstaedt’s account of how he took the picture.

In Times Square on V.J. Day I saw a sailor running along the street grabbing any and every girl in sight. Whether she was a grandmother, stout, thin, old, didn’t make a difference. I was running ahead of him with my Leica looking back over my shoulder but none of the pictures that were possible pleased me. Then suddenly, in a flash, I saw something white being grabbed. I turned around and clicked the moment the sailor kissed the nurse. If she had been dressed in a dark dress I would never have taken the picture. If the sailor had worn a white uniform, the same. I took exactly four pictures. It was done within a few seconds. Only one is right, on account of the balance. In the others the emphasis is wrong — the sailor on the left side is either too small or too tall. People tell me that when I am in heaven they will remember this picture.

Funny enough, another photographer, Jorgensen, also took a picture of the same scene which was published in the New York Times the following day. Jorgenson’s shot shows less of Times Square and is dark and shows few details of the main subjects; more importantly it does not show the lower legs and feet of the subjects.
